Product Description

Our Boise, Idaho lumberyard sells2x8 x 20' #2 Kiln-Dried Douglas Fir Lumber for large-scale structural projects across the Treasure Valley. Known for outstanding strength and structural predictability over maximum distances, Douglas Fir is the preferred softwood choice for long-span framing designs. This 20-foot material is kiln-dried to eliminate excess moisture and lock in structural stability, giving building crews straight, reliable boards for heavy-duty framing applications.

Specifications
  • Nominal Size: 2x8
  • Actual Dimensions: 1-1/2" x 7-1/4"
  • Length: 20'
  • Species: Douglas Fir
  • Grade: #2
  • Moisture Content: Kiln-Dried
  • Surfacing: S4S
Common Uses
  • Maximum-span roof rafters, continuous ridge lines, and hip/valley structural assemblies on large residential designs.
  • Extended floor joist systems and ceiling joist configurations requiring clear spans up to 20 feet.
  • Full-length wall plates, structural perimeter rim joists, and continuous subfloor framing lines to minimize weak points from splicing.
Contractor & Builder Notes
  • Handling Long Spans: Due to the 20-foot length, always transport and stage these long boards on edge or fully supported on level skids to avoid excessive flexing and sagging before they are fastened.
  • Deflection Mitigation: Always install solid row-blocking or cross-bridging at the intervals required by local building codes to properly control vertical deflection and prevent lateral twisting across a 20-foot span.
